Router
It is a networking device. It is used to run the internet on a wired
or wireless computer. It is also called DSL or Cable modem. There are several
types of routers, but most routers pass data between LAN (Local Area Network)
and WAN (Wide Area Network).

Types of Router
There are mainly five types of routers available in the market
according to their application categories. There are:
1. Wired
Router
2. Wireless Router
3. Edge Router
4. Core
Router
5. VPN
Router
Wired Router:
It is a type of router. Which has
been designed to connect directly to the computers through wired connections.
It has a port that connects to the modem to communicate with the Internet.
Wireless Router:
It is a type of router that is
used to offer Wi-Fi connectivity such as laptops, smart-phone, and many other
devices with Wi-Fi networks.
Edge Router:
It is a type of router. It can
be wire or wireless and will distribute internet and data packets. Which is
used at the edge of the backbone of the network and connects to the core
routers.
Core Router:
It is a type of router that is
made to operate in the internet backbone or core. It is used to support
multiple telecommunication interfaces of the highest speed in use in the core
Internet and must be able to forward IP packets at full speed on all of them.
VPN Router:
It is a short form of a Virtual Private Network. It is a router that has been
designed to connect to a VPN directly. This capability allows the router to extend
VPN security to each device.
