SMPS (Switch Mode Power Supply)

SMPS occurs in the upper corner inside the casing. The full from of SMPS is Switch Mode Power Supply. It converts AC (Alternate Current) to DC (Direct Current). It is working or not working to check whether the black and green wire of SMPS with 12 or 20 and 24 pins is shorted (touched) by any other wire.

There are two types of SMPS. They are:

1.      AT SMPS

2.      ATX SMPS

AT SMPS:

AT SMPS means Advanced Technology SMPS. Its power supply consists of two ports P8 and P9. It has 2x6=12 Pin. This SMPS computer is turned off by pressing the Power Button of the CPU after shut down. It is not widely used today. It is especially used in PI and PII Computers.

ATX SMPS:

ATX SMPS means Advanced Technology Extended SMPS. Its power supply wiring ports are one. It has 2x12=24 Pin. After shutting down the computer with this SMPS, you do not have to press the power button of the CPU. That is the computer shuts itself down. It is more used nowadays in the market. It is especially used in PIV computer.
